On February 3, 1895 St. John's Evangelical Church at Union, IL was organized as a congregation of the Evangelical Synod of North America. For many years the congregation met in the Methodist Church holding services on Sunday afternoon under the leadership of the Harmony Pastor.
During the 1900's the Methodist church dispanded so the Rock River Conference sold the church building with one acre of ground to St. John's Evangelical congregation. At that time art glass windows and a new organ were purchased. In 1924 the congregation called its first full-time pastor, and a parsonage was purchased at that time. In 1934 the congreagtion became a part of the Evangelical and Reformed church after the merger of the two demoninations.
In 1944 the parsonage was sold however at the same time the congregation decided to make improvements to the existing building and a partial basement was installed and a furnace was added. In the 1950s and addition was added to the church for fellowship and Sunday School.
In 1957 the church became part of the
United Church of Christ after the merger of the Congregational Christian Churches and the Evangelical and Reformed Church.
In the 70s a larger area for parking was added as well as new furnances and a refurbishing of the Sanctuary.
